Holiness part b
Holiness is an internal work with external results.
A. 2 Cor. 6:14-7:1
1. What fellowship does light have with darkness?
2. 2 Cor. 6:17, "Come out from among them, and be ye
separate," "and I will receive you,"
B. 2 Cor. 7:1 "perfecting holiness in the fear of God."
C. Holiness encompasses all areas of our life.
1. Body, soul, and spirit.
2. Attitudes are an integral part of holiness.
a. Bad attitudes detract from our testimony.
b. The "holier than thou" attitude creates a barrier
between the "saint" and "sinner".
Scripture: Adornment and Dress
General Principles
"Be not conformed to this world" (Romans 12:2).
"I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works" (I Timothy 2:8-10).
"Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves" (I Peter 3:3-5).
"The lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world" (I John 2:16).

Stewardship of the Body
"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise" (Proverbs 20:1).
"Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder" (Proverbs 23:31-32).
Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
"Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey?" (Romans 6:16).
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are"
(I Corinthians 3:16-17).
"Nor drunkards ... shall inherit the kingdom of God" (I Corinthians 6:10).
"All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any" (I Corinthians 6:12).
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Corinthians 6:19-20).
In this lesson we have seen Scriptural references which address general principles of holiness.
Immodest Dress:
A. Dressing in a manner which exposes the body or in a manner to attract people.
Makeup and Hair Die
A. Coloring the hair is spoken of as vanity.
B. Makeup is commonly associated with "Jezebel" and harlotry.
Ornaments and extravagant dress
A. Jewelry is associated with "worldliness". In fact in some instances; is referred to as an "amulet", which refers to it's use in occult practices.
B. We teach that other than a wedding band, engagement ring and a watch there is no need for jewelry.
C. Extravagant dress is, again, dressing in a way which attracts people to you rather than Christ.
Distinction between sexes
A. Men and women were created differently. Men ought to look like men, and women look like women.
Hair
A. The Bible clearly states that if a women cuts or shortens her hair it is a shame to her.
B. Long uncut hair on a women is a glory to her and shows submission to her husband.
C. Men ought to have short neat haircuts distinguishing themselves from women.
Stewardship of the body
A. We teach against the consumption of alcohol.
B. There is sufficient evidence that in Bible days wine did not contain alcohol. Since there was little "good" water to drink it was thought that wine was safer to consume.
C. Your Body - the temple of the Holy Ghost.
