Bible Prophecy "The Book Of Revelation"

Lesson one:  Introduction to Revelation and Chapter 1

The word Revelation comes from the word (Apocalupsis) (or Apocalypse), which means to unveil.

This is not the Revelation of John.  It is the "Revelation of Jesus Christ".

The writer is the apostle John.  John received this vision while He was banished to the Isle of Patmos.

The book of Revelation is divided into three major segments.

Rev. 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

     1. The things which thou hast seen; Rev. 1:1-20
     2. The things which are; Rev. 2:1 - 3:22
     3. The things which shall be hereafter; Rev.4:1 - 22:21

The Sevens.
     1. Seven Churches; Rev. 2:1 - 3:22
     2. Seven Seals; Rev. 6:1 - 8:1
     3. Seven Trumpets; Rev.8:2 - 11:19
     4. Seven Personages; Rev. 12:1 - 14:20
     5. Seven Vials; Rev. 15:1 - 16:21
     6. Seven Dooms; Rev. 17:1 - 20:15
     7. Seven New Things; Rev. 21:1 - 22:21

     A. An unveiling of events that shall precede and accompany His return.

     B. Mark 13:7 And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled:
for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.
8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be
earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the
     beginnings of sorrows.

     C. Mark 13:32  But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which
are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

     D. No new Revelations,  Rev. 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words
of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto
him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God
shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the
things which are written in this book.

     E. Revelation is prophetic and symbolic. Rev. 1:1 "Signified" means "signs and symbols"
               2

          1. The beginning; talks about the Church.
          2. The middle; talks about Israel.

Revelation Chapter One

     A. Verses, 4 - 6: Seven Churches in Asia.

     B. There were more than seven Churches. Colosse, Hierapolis, and Troas were also
Churches in this region.  The Lord wanted to use “the seven” as representatives of the
entire church age. We will discuss this more later.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ

Rev. 1:8  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me,  saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Jesus Christ, God manifest in flesh.

(1 Tim. 3:16  And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.)

Matt. 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
